When to Use Each Page Vault Capture Tool

A quick guide to choosing the right capture method for websites, social media, and more

Page Vault offers several tools to help you capture and preserve web content accurately. Choosing the right one depends on what you need to capture — whether that’s a single webpage, an entire website, or a social media profile. This guide outlines when to use each tool and how they fit different workflows.

Choosing the Right Tool

Browser

Use the Page Vault Browser to:

  • Capture individual webpages or small sets of pages.

  • Interact with pages that require scrolling, logging in, or expanding content.

  • Capture most social media content, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn.

Best For: Single pages, interactive sites, and captures requiring manual review before preservation.

Batch

Use Batch when you want to:

  • Bulk capture webpages from the same domain.

  • Preserve online documents and videos automatically.

  • Scrape Facebook profiles or capture specific date ranges of posts.

  • Schedule captures for future or recurring runs.

Best For: High-volume captures, automated workflows, or sites containing embedded media.

Site Crawler

💡 Note: Site Crawler is a premium feature. Contact support@page-vault.com if you’re interested in access.

Use the Site Crawler to:

  • Scan and map entire websites, identifying all URLs.

  • Capture full sites automatically, including subpages up to 20,000 URLS

  • Gather document links (such as PDFs or reports) without manual browsing.

Webpages

Use the Browser When:

  • You need to capture individual webpages or those that require interaction (logins, scrolls, or dynamic elements).

  • You want to review the page before capture to ensure all content loads correctly.

Use Batch When:

  • You’re capturing multiple webpages from the same domain.

  • You want to schedule or automate captures.

  • The pages contain embedded videos or downloadable content.

Social Media

Facebook

Use Standard Expander When:
  • Capturing semi-private or private profiles (requires login).

  • Viewing and capturing posts, comments, or photos not visible publicly.

Use Batch Social Media Tool When:
  • Capturing a public profile or page viewable without login.

  • Gathering posts from a specific timeframe.

  • Gathering a scrape of a public profile.

Other Social Media Platforms

Use the Expander When:

  • Capturing Tiktok, Instagram, or YouTube with comments

Use Regular Capture Tools When:

  • Capturing other social media profiles such as X (Twitter), LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.

Site Crawler

Use Crawl Only When:

  • You want to get a list of URLs to understand the structure or size of a site.

  • You need to locate specific document URLs (like PDFs).

Example: Reviewing a corporate site before choosing which pages to preserve.

Use Crawl and Capture When:

  • You need to preserve every page from a site.

  • You want a complete, automated website capture.
