Capture webpages directly from Chrome or Edge with our extension

The Page Vault Browser Extension is available to all Page Vault customers and provides a simple way to capture webpages directly from your Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser.

⚠️ Note: This first version of the extension is best suited for capturing standard websites. It is not designed for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn, or Twitter. For social media captures, please continue using the Page Vault Browser.

 


Getting Started

  1. Log into your Page Vault account: https://portal.page-vault.com/

  2. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.

  3. Locate the puzzle piece icon in your Chrome toolbar, find the Page Vault logo, and click Pin to keep the extension visible.


How to Capture a Page

  1. In the extension, select the folder where you want your capture saved. (Start typing the folder name in the text box to search.)

  2. Navigate to the webpage you want to capture in Chrome.

    • Close any unwanted pop-ups before capturing.

    • Remember: social media sites are not supported.

  3. Click the Page Vault extension icon.

  4. Click Capture Page.

  5. Wait for confirmation that your capture has started.

  6. To view your capture, either:

    • Log in to the Portal, or

    • Click the folder icon in the extension to open your selected folder automatically.


What to Expect

  • Captures run in the background. You don’t need to remain on the page.

  • Your capture will appear in the chosen folder after a brief processing period (up to 60 seconds for longer pages).

  • You can continue browsing and even start new captures while waiting.


Technical FAQs

Why doesn’t my capture appear right away?
There is a short processing period. Most captures appear within 60 seconds.

What data does the extension collect and store?

  • Browser cookies (for maintaining authentication state)

  • Webpage metadata (for legal admissibility)

  • User authentication credentials from the Page Vault Portal

  • Date and time the capture was submitted

  • Basic usage analytics via Posthog

Where is captured data stored?
All captures are stored securely in the Page Vault infrastructure. No captured content is stored locally on your device.

Are captures legally admissible?
Yes. The extension sends the URL and cookies to Page Vault’s backend system, ensuring the same secure, legally admissible process as other capture methods.

How is the extension distributed and updated?

  • Distributed through the Chrome Web Store

  • Updated automatically via Chrome’s secure update mechanism
