How to Capture a Webpage

Step-by-step instructions for capturing online content using Page Vault's capture tools

The Page Vault Browser allows you to browse and capture web content just like you would with Chrome or Edge. You can log into websites, view dynamic content, and then preserve what’s on your screen with just a few clicks. Follow these steps to capture a web page:

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Launch the Page Vault Browser from your Portal
  2. Navigate to Your Target Page

    • Click the URL bar, enter the website address, and press Enter.

    • You can browse freely by clicking links, going back a page, or entering another URL.

  3. Prepare the Page for Capture

    • Close any pop-ups you don’t want to include.

    • Manually expand any “see more” or dropdown sections you want to appear in the capture.

  4. Start the Capture

    • Click the Capture button in the top left corner of the browser.

    • The Capture dialog will open.

  5. Select a Folder

    • The first time you use Capture Mode, you’ll be required to choose a folder to save your capture.

    • After the first capture, your last-used folder will pre-populate. Click the folder name to change or create a new one.

  6. (Optional) Customize Your Capture

    • Capture Name: A default name is pre-filled, but you can rename it.

    • Case Matter ID: If your organization requires a CMID, you’ll be prompted to enter it.

    • Notes: Add any notes you’d like. These appear in the Portal but not on the downloadable capture.

  7. Choose a Capture Type (explained below).

  8. Click “Start”

    • The capture status will display at the top of the screen.

    • Once complete, the capture will be available in your Page Vault Portal.

Capture Type Options

  • Entire Page
Scrolls automatically to the bottom of the page and captures everything. You do not need to scroll manually.

  • Single-Screen
Captures only the content currently visible in the browser window. Results in a 1-page PDF.

  • Top to Active
Captures from the top of the page down to the area currently in view.

  • Active to End
Captures from the current screen down to the bottom of the page.

Important: For websites with infinite scroll (such as news sites), avoid using Entire Page or Active Screen to End. These options can cause the browser to crash due to continuous loading.
