Instagram Capture Troubleshooting

Common Errors and How to Fix Them

💡These steps follow the redesigned Page Vault Browser. Legacy screens may look a little different, but the workflow is the same! (The legacy browser retires July 15, 2026.)

When capturing Instagram with Page Vault, you may encounter issues signing in, missing data in scrapes, or problems with multi-video posts. Below are the most common errors and recommended solutions.

1. Unable to Sign Into Instagram in the Page Vault Browser

If you can log into Instagram in your personal browser but not in the Page Vault Browser, Instagram may be blocking your login attempt. Try the following steps:

  1. Open the gear menu at the bottom of the side panel and select Reload Blocked Webpage (if prompted).
  2. In the same gear menu, select Clear Cookies.
  3. Select End Session from the gear menu.
  4. Wait 2–3 minutes, then start a new capture session from your Portal.
  5. Once the browser reloads, open the gear menu, go to Browser Settings, and toggle on Skip Proxy.
  6. Navigate to Instagram and sign in.
  7. After signing in, return to Browser Settings and toggle Skip Proxy back off before starting your capture.

2. Empty Scrape File or Missing Comments

If you receive an empty scrape or if comments are not captured, the issue is often with the URL format.

  • Instagram recently began adding ?hl=en to the end of profile URLs.

  • This can interfere with Page Vault’s capture tools.

  • Solution: Remove ?hl=en from the URL and reload the profile. The content will remain the same, but captures will be more complete.

3. Capturing Posts with Multiple Videos

If you need to capture a single Instagram post that contains multiple videos, use the Batch Social Media tool in your Portal. Batch Social Media can now handle multi-video posts — each video is saved as its own MP4 alongside the PDF of the post.

  1. In your Page Vault Portal, navigate to Batch > Social Media.
  2. Select Bulk URL Capture.
  3. Select Instagram from the platform dropdown.
  4. Paste in the post URL.
  5. Toggle on Capture Embedded Videos so every video from the post is saved as an MP4 alongside the PDF.
  6. Authenticate using the Page Vault Chrome Extension or by pasting your Instagram cookies manually.
  7. Choose your destination folder, name the job, and start it.

The job will run in the background on Page Vault's servers, with progress visible on the Job History page in your Portal.
