How to Continue an Instagram Profile Capture

Steps to resume a profile capture if it stopped or errored before completing

If an Instagram profile capture errors out or stops before completing, you can continue capturing the remaining content without starting from scratch. The process: generate a fresh list of post URLs from the profile, identify what was missed, and capture only the remaining posts. You can do this directly in the Page Vault Browser or with the Batch Social Media tool in your Portal — both options can capture embedded videos in the same job.

Step 1: Generate a List of Post URLs

  1. Reopen the Instagram profile in your Page Vault Browser.
  2. Sign in to Instagram if prompted.
  3. In the sidebar, click Get Post URLs.

Page Vault will email you a scrape file containing every post URL on the profile.

  • Sheet 1: All post URLs from the profile (with indicators for video content)
  • Sheet 2: URLs that contain videos only

Step 2: Resume the Capture

Option A: In the Page Vault Browser

  1. Open the scrape file and review the list of post URLs.
  2. Identify the posts that were not captured in your previous attempt.
  3. In the Page Vault Browser, navigate to any one of those missing post URLs.
  4. Click Capture Page in the sidebar to open the Capture panel.
  5. Leave the Capture type set to Instagram post capture.
  6. Click the + next to Bulk capture additional posts and paste in the remaining missing URLs — one per line. 
  7. Toggle on Capture Videos From Posts so any embedded videos are saved as MP4s alongside the PDF captures. This means you do not need a separate video Batch job.
  8. Select your destination folder, then add a case matter ID, or Notes if needed.
  9. Click Capture!

Page Vault will capture each post in the list, expand all comments and replies, and save the PDFs and MP4s together in your selected folder.

Option B: In Batch Social Media

If you'd prefer to run the missing posts as a Batch job use the Batch Social Media tool in your Portal.

  1. Open your Page Vault Portal and navigate to Batch > Social Media.
  2. Select Bulk URL Capture.
  3. Select Instagram from the platform dropdown.
  4. Paste in the missing post URLs from your scrape file — one per line.
  5. Toggle on the option to capture embedded videos as MP4s so videos are included in the same job.
  6. Choose your destination folder and any additional job settings.
  7. Start the batch job.

Batch jobs run in the background on Page Vault's servers, so you can close the browser and monitor progress from the Job History page in your Portal.

Optional: Capture Videos as a Separate Batch Job

If you didn't toggle on video capture during Step 2 — or you need to grab just the videos from Sheet 2 of the scrape — you can run them as a dedicated Video Batch job.

  1. From the scrape file, open Sheet 2 to find all video URLs.
  2. In your Portal, open the Batch tool.
  3. Select the Video job type.
  4. Paste in the video URLs (up to 500 at a time).
  5.  Add cookies
  6. Start the Batch job to complete the video captures.
